Abricot Kennels

History

My first Sealyham was obtained from Wirehill Kennels. He was a son of GRB Am Can Ch Roderick of Jemnist. He was so delightful that I decided that I would like to show and breed. The year was 1982.

My first show Sealy was again from Wirehill. Her name was Wirehill Sea Abigail, a daughter of Am Can Ch Wirehill Roddy's Boy and Can Ch Torset Treasure Girl. She was piloted to her Can Ch by a good friend, Dr. Ron Hobkirk. As a Specials, she was a multi group winner and placer finishing with a Best in Show under Am judge Thelma Brown. In 1985, Abigail obtained her American CH shown by Bob LaRouech. She again placed and won the group at several shows. She won BB at Devon that year. In 1984 we obtained Am Ch Goodspice Basil, who we later traded with Kay Guimond for a young son of Roddy and Torset Treasure Girl. His name was Wirehill Roddy's Treasure. He gained his title easily and was also winner's dog at Montgomery that year. That trade was significant in that Basil sired a litter out of Ch Wirehill Polly's Girl, from which we acquired a female puppy who became our second foundation bitch. Her name was Am Can Ch Wirehill Drummer Girl. She won several best puppy in group as well as winning Best in Sweepstakes at Montgomery in 1984 under Hap Sutliff.

In 1985, breeding began. Drummer Girl (Sally)was bred to Treasure and produced two females which we kept. They were Can Am Ch Abricot High Society and Can Am Ch Abricot High Jinx. These two bitches became very important in the production of future generation. I will refer back to these later.

A repeat breeding produced another excellent progeny, Can Am Ch Abricot Royal Albert. He was again piloted around the rings by Ron Hobkirk and won or placed in many groups. He obtained his Am Ch shown by George and Roz Ward. He won multiple groups in the US. In 1988 Ch Abricot High Society was bred to Christine and Brad Hawley's dog Am Can Ch Wrightstuff Mr Moussaca and produced two magnificent sons. Mr Moussaca or Moose as he is known is a son of Bis Can Am Ch Wirehill Roddy's Boy and Am Ch Peason's Angel of Distinction. One puppy went home with the Hawleys'. He was to become Am Can Ch Abricot Hudson of Trailview and as a young dog he has already won two Groups and a Best In Show. His brother, our Can Am Ch Abricot Night Hawk, has been Best of Winners at Devon shown by Brad Hawley and has won many groups in Canada, at first shown by us then by Ron Hobkirk who now owns him in London, ON.

In 1988 Can Am Ch Abricot High Jinx was bred to the Hawley's Moose and that litter produced Can Ch Abricot Carleton who won many puppy groups and Ch Abricot Gladstone, also a puppy winner.

A repeat breeding in 1989 produced the top Canadian bred Sealy of all time, Can Am GRB Ch Abricot Blenheim Bloke. Blenheim finished his Canadian title in half a dozen shows while capturing 2 group placements, 3 BPIG and a Best Puppy in Show under Am judge Clint Harris. He began his Specials career shown by Garrett Lambert and won many group placements and a Best in Show in 1992. In 1993, though shown only 50 times, won the Group 25 times and won 10 more Best in Show. He was then seen by the Horns of Topstage Kennels in England and arrangements were made to ship him to England where he is now owned by the Horns. Coming out of quarantine, he quickly won 4 CC's in 1994 and was Top Sealy for the year. He was again Top Sealy in 1995, winning B and a Group 3rd at Crufts and also a Group 3rd at the Scottish Kennel Club. To date he has accumulated 18 CC's and numerous Best in Shows at Champion Shows and at Open Shows.

In 1986, Can Am Ch Wirehill Sea Abigail was bred to Am Can Ch Abricot Royal Albert and produced Can Am Ch Abricot Scheherazade, a beautiful bitch. She in turn was bred in 1990 to Am Can Ch Abricot Night and produced Can Am Ch Abricot Victoria. Victoria was bred to Blenheim and produced Can Am Ch Abricot Royalist and Can Ch Abricot Olivia. Scheherazade was also bred to Blenheim and produced Can Ch Abricot Chaminade.

At this point we felt that we could use an outcross stud dog in our kennel and imported from Mr & Mrs Horn a young dog they had just made up. His name was GRB Ch Davmar Dinner Date. He bacame a Can Ch in short order and in 1996 Olivia bred to him produced Can Am Ch Abricot Africa. Zulu as she is known is a true show Sealy capturing many group wins and placements in 2 months to date. She is bing specialed by William & Allison Alexander. The other breeding to Dinner Date was that of Chaminade. We kept a young dog of quality, Can Ch Abricot Double Eagle.

Before retiring to a pet home, Olivia was bred to another import from England, Wilderson California Dreamin', better known as Elmer Fudd. Elmer is a Blenheim son out of Lewannes Prim and Proper. He completed his Can Ch by placing in the group. This breeding produced Abricot Creme de Menthe (Marnie), still a puppy.

Also from England, a very beautiful bitch, Topstage Miss Madeleine, now a Can Champion, bred by the Horns out of Blenheim and their outstanding bitch GRB Ch Topstage Dry Martini. Biddy, as she is known here looks very much like her dam and her grandam GRB Ch Dry Ginger of Topstage. In 1997, Biddy was bred to Abricot Double Eagle and produced four puppies of which we kept a male Abricot Moonraker and a female Abricot Miss Brahms. These two are 4 months old to date and look extremely promising.

This brings the history of our kennel up to date. We have been very successful in producing a type that is easily recognizable through linebreeding and the occasional outcross. To close, we announce the imminent arrival of a recently titled English dog, GRB Ch Topstage Welsh Bloke of Pindaric. He is another Blenheim son out of Topstage Oak Apple. He will be co-owned with Sally Sweatt. Blenheim has done extremely well for us and for the Horns in England. He has progeny in Canada, the USA, England as well as in Scandinavia, France, Spain and New Zealand. Though eight and half years old he is still quite the show dog and still winning Best in Show in late 1997.
